Job Overview
Professional caregiver who is responsible for the preparation of the patient prior to the procedure. To assist the physician during the performance of procedures, including but not limited to angioplasties and cardiac catheterization. Participates in unit Quality Improvement evaluation activities. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to provide age-specific treatment
Required
- Current New Jersey RN license
- ASN or Nursing Diploma (Must agree to complete BSN within 5 years of hire date)
- BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
- Completion of a Dysrhythmia course
- Maintaining current status of competencies and mandatories
- BSN
Job Duties
- Implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and CCL department
- Performs interventions in accordance with current policy and procedures, safety guidelines and infection control principles,
- Competent in performing all roles within the CCL, including but not limited to circulating, monitoring, holding room, and scrubbing,
- Reports patient complaints, problems and any untoward signs, symptoms or unusual occurrences immediately to the appropriate physician or supervisor
- Reports care/patient education according to standards, utilizing designated tools, forms and systems,
- Provides basic patient care and comfort,
- Assists with unit department education,
- Acts as a resource person, precepting as delegated or needed,
- Assists cardiologist during procedures,
- Maintains competent operation of the information system,
- Performs inventory and restocking on all supplies ordered in the cardiac cath lab,
- Order CCL supplies,
- The staff member participates in the interdisciplinary patient teaching process,
- The staff member demonstrates the ability to identify what the patient's educational needs are,
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment and environment
- Airway Management: demonstrates understanding/states proper procedure for suctioning; demonstrates application of supplemental oxygen nasal cannula mask laerdal bag; demonstrates understanding/states proper procedure for maintaining an open airway,
- Arterial Line Management: demonstrates/states hospital procedure per policy; demonstrates/states equipment set up,
- Cardiac/Respiratory Arrest Management:
States proper mechanism for activating cardiac/respiratory arrest mechanisms; demonstrates understanding of code cart check; states procedure for replacing items on code cart, - Cardioversion: demonstrates/states procedure; demonstrates/states use of synch button; demonstrates/states placement of paddles,
- Defibrillation demonstrates/states procedure; demonstrates/states placement of paddles,
- Hemodynamic Monitoring: demonstrates/states performance of cardiac outputs; demonstrates/states waveform as indicator of catheter position; demonstrates/states procedure for blood samples
- Hemoximeter: demonstrates/states procedure per hospital policy,
- Intra Aortic Balloon Pump and Impella Management: demonstrates/states procedure per hospital policy,
- Rhythm Interpretation: has completed dysrhythmia course certificate in education file; identifies rhythm strips accurately,
- Scrub role: demonstrates/states how to drape patient for cardiac catheterization; demonstrates/states how to assist cardiologist during the cardiac catheterization
- Setup Role: demonstrates how to prepare patient for cardiac catheterization by attaching monitoring equipment; demonstrates how to assist scrub person prepare patient for cardiac catheterization,
- Sheath Removal: demonstrates/states how to remove Femoral sheath per departmental policy,
- Temporary Pacemaker: demonstrates/states procedure for temporary pacemaker,
- IVUS/Angiojet/Sonosite : demonstrates/states correct operation of the equipment for procedures, including troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment,
