Arora and Associates, PC is seeking an Instrument Operator to join our Land Surveying Department in Lawrenceville, NJ. Applicant must be a responsible, motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong technical and computer skills, and able to work in a team environment in the office and in the field. This is a field position with required travel between the office and job sites in New Jersey and New York, using company vehicles.
DUTIESOperate a variety of surveying instruments, including:
- GNSS-RTN (Real-Time Network) receivers for high-precision positioning
- Total stations for conventional data collection
- Mobile LiDAR systems for corridor and roadway surface mapping
Collect accurate geospatial data to support:
- Bridge design and inspection projects
- Roadway design, rehabilitation, and asset management
- As-built surveys and existing condition documentation
- Ensure data collection aligns with project control networks and coordinate systems (e.g., state plane, local grid)
- Perform field calibrations and instrument checks to maintain accuracy and with quality standards
- Assist in planning and executing data acquisition missions with consideration for safety, accessibility, and site conditions
- Record and manage metadata, field notes, and environmental conditions relevant to each data collection effort
- Collaborate with project managers, surveyors, and engineers to confirm survey requirements and data needs
- Post-process or prepare collected data for office staff, including point cloud formatting, file naming, and preliminary QA/QC
- Maintain survey equipment, ensuring readiness and proper function for all field activities
- Adhere to safety protocols and traffic control requirements while working in active roadway or bridge environments
- 1 to 2 years’ experience doing the following:
- Operation of survey equipment such as total stations, data collectors, levels and (GPS)
- Using software to download survey data from data collectors
- Ability to work on construction sites in NJ weather
- Willing and able to work overtime and to travel for out-of-town assignments
- A valid driver's license
Compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
