Instructional Support Specialist – 2026 Pre‑College Summer Program )

The College of New Jersey’s Pre‑College Summer Program (PCSP) is seeking energetic and dedicated Instructional Support Specialists for Summer 2026. PCSP is a 10‑day, 9‑night inclusive residential experience designed for New Jersey high school students (ages 16–21) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participants live and learn on campus while engaging in academic, social, and career‑focused experiences that prepare them for college life, employment, and greater independence.

Instructional Support Specialists play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, social, and personal growth throughout the summer program. Working closely with instructors and other program staff, they help create a welcoming and engaging classroom and campus environment that encourages learning, inclusion, and confidence.

Program Dates

Session 1:
July 7–16, 2026;
Session 2:
July 21–30, 2026

Please note

This program is supported through federal funding. Program continuation and all associated staff positions are contingent upon the availability of these funds. In the event that funding is reduced or withdrawn, positions may be modified or rescinded.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist instructors in delivering adapted academic lessons and activities focused on literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.
  • Support students individually and in small groups to enhance participation and comprehension.
  • Take detailed notes and assist with the production of end‑of‑program reports.
  • Encourage positive peer interactions and model inclusive social behavior.
  • Help organize and implement classroom and campus‑based activities.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure a consistent and student‑centered experience.
  • Uphold the values of person‑centered planning, self‑determination, and community inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working or volunteering with youth with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Familiarity with transition planning, inclusive education, or pre‑employment transition services (Pre‑ETS).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring students in an inclusive college setting.
