Position Overview
We are in search of a meticulous and organized Staff Accountant specializing in Construction Accounts Payable. This role is integral to ensuring precise financial operations and supporting the seamless execution of construction projects. The successful candidate will bring experience from the construction or related sectors and demonstrate proficiency in managing payables and vendor interactions.
Passaic County, New Jersey
Key Responsibilities- Efficiently process vendor invoices, ensuring accurate coding and approval in alignment with company policies and project budgets.
- Oversee the complete accounts payable cycle, including invoice matching with purchase orders and resolving discrepancies.
- Track project costs diligently, ensuring correct expense allocation to respective projects.
- Prepare and execute both checks and electronic payments promptly.
- Engage with vendors to address billing issues and discrepancies, ensuring timely resolution and payments.
- Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to maintain accurate financial records.
- Contribute to month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and account reconciliations.
- Collaborate with project managers and procurement teams for accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized financial records, facilitating audits.
- Provide support to the accounting team with ad-hoc financial tasks and reporting needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounts payable, ideally within the construction or real estate development industry.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and project cost management.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, or Quick Books, along with Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
- Capable of prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with lien waivers, subcontractor payments, and construction compliance documents is beneficial.
