About The Unit: 4 Med Surg is a 38-bed unit with all private rooms, including 4 bariatric capable rooms, 2 negative pressure rooms and telemetry. We care for a variety of patients (renal issues, abdominal pain, UTIs, post-op, CIWA, psych, SOB/COPD, hospice, anemia, pneumonia, DVT, seizures) and value patient safety and high-quality scores. Trenton is a Magnet designated hospital with Level Two Trauma and Stroke Certification.

About Trenton Hospital:
This Magnet designated facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical care and hosts multiple residency programs. It has a Level II trauma center with focused heart, vascular, pulmonary, orthopedics, neurosurgery and women’s health services.

• Provide professional nursing care under the ANA scope of practice using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge needs of patient/family.
• Partner with patient/family input to plan and document the plan of care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and competently perform technical procedures and use equipment properly.
• Document in the patient record timely, accurately and concisely.
• Develop teaching strategies for patient/family and document education in the health record.

• Associate degree in Nursing required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years
• External candidates: minimum 2 years of related acute care experience; competency assessment required
• Internal candidates with less than 2 years of clinical experience must be approved by their current nurse leader and the site Chief Nursing Officer; must remain unit-based PRN until reaching 2 years
• RN license in Michigan required
• BLS (AHA or ARC) required upon hire
• Specialty certification highly recommended within 2 years
