Institute for Biomedicine
Short description of the position:
The Institute for Biomedicine, located at Bolzano's NOI Techpark, is a key component of Eurac Research, dedicated to improving health through precision prevention research. This interdisciplinary effort seeks to predict, slow or preempt illness progression by understanding genetic, biological, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Utilizing a decade-long population study in collaboration with the South Tyrolean Healthcare Service, the institute offers access to extensive data and biological materials suitable for such research.
With a focus on neurological, cardiovascular, and metabolic health, the team employs state‑of‑the‑art labs and innovative management to span the full translational research cycle, from data generation to potential clinical application.
In its focus area “Mitochondrial function and neuronal disease modelling” the Translational Genomics group is looking for a Trainee post lauream to work on mitochondrial targets for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Specifically, the team investigates genes and pathways that contribute to the pathological processes of PD by disrupting mitochondrial function. Using appropriate neuronal models that include iPSC‑derived neurons grown in 2D and 3D culture, we are assessing molecular phenotypes and testing specific targets and pathways for developing interventional strategies and slowing down the disease process.
The selected candidate will join a project devoted to realizing a high‑throughput screen for the identification and validation of novel molecular targets.
The position is open for students post lauream with a master’s degree in science (cell biology, biotechnology, neuroscience or related disciplines) for a period of 10 months (graduation no more than 12 months before the start of the internship).
Tasks:
iPSC culture
Differentiation of iPSCs into neuronal cultures
Real time‑PCR and Western blot
Immunofluorescence and confocal imaging
High throughput imaging
Biochemical assays
Molecular cloning techniques
Gene editing by CRISPR‑Cas
Requirements:
Molecular and cellular biology bases
Experience in cell culture work as well as in basic molecular laboratory techniques
Previous experience in iPSC culture and differentiation will be an advantage
Good knowledge of English; knowledge of either German or Italian language is an advantage
Well‑developed social skills, a hands‑on attitude and ability to work in a team
Willing to develop new skills and explore novel ideas
We offer:
International environment and engaged colleagues
Training in a broad range of cell and molecular biology techniques
Internship compensation
How to apply:
Interested candidates should submit their application (CV, cover letter and further relevant documents) by 23.02.2026.
