Food Rescue Route Driver

Description

This position is responsible for the collection and distribution of food for the Food Rescue program. This posting is for an on‑call fill‑in driver who can be available Monday‑Friday for shifts running 6 am–2:30 pm.

• Must pass pre‑employment drug screen as required by DOT regulations and maintain DOT medical examiner's certificate.
• Motor vehicle record must meet organization and DOT standards.

• Drive and operate Food Rescue trucks.
• Collect and deliver donated food to pantries and partner agencies.
• Adhere to all applicable state and local transportation laws and company policies to ensure safe and lawful operation of vehicles.
• Represent Food Rescue and Goodwill Northern Michigan to donors and agencies.
• Maintain Food Rescue vehicles and refrigeration in clean, good running condition.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as established in the Goodwill Manual.

• Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
• Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
• Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
• Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non‑visible disabilities.
• Enter daily poundage records into Food Rescue Database.
• Build and manage relationships with food donors and agency partners.
• Operate Food Rescue equipment such as pallet jack and digital scale.
• Ensure a clean working environment that complies with the local Health Department and other agencies.
• Communicate regularly with FR Director to ensure good customer service throughout the Food Rescue service area.
• Train and lead volunteer riders to ensure safety and effectiveness.
• Maintain great customer service internally and externally.
• Adhere to all Goodwill Northern Michigan policies and procedures.
• Comply with Michigan seasonal weight restrictions (“frost laws”) and adjust routes or loads as required during thaw periods to protect roadways and ensure legal operation.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.

• Valid Michigan Driver’s License with a safe, clean driving record.
• Have or ability to obtain Chauffeur License or CDL.
• Have or ability to obtain DOT Medical Certification.
• Tier 1 Serve Safe Certification.
• High School Diploma / GED.

• Familiarity with community donation sites and agencies.
• Knowledge of maps of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Antrim and Benzie counties.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities or who are disadvantaged.
• Ability to work with a variety of people.
• Ability to multi‑task.
• Self‑starter, personally motivated and dependable.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and knowledge of basic math.

• Drive and operate trucks and vehicles.
• Routinely sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
• Routinely bend, stoop, and stretch throughout the day.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
• This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.

This position may require routine travel and the ability to work a flexible schedule including early‑morning, evening, and weekend hours.
