Description

The Assistant Manager, Production and Outlet collaborates closely with retail store management to ensure the overall success of the Goodwill store operation. The primary focus of this position is meeting and exceeding and outlet operations, ensuring that the highest quality of merchandise is graded and priced according to current quality and pricing guidelines. Success in this role will depend on the ability to effectively manage production processes, improve inventory turnover, and develop a high-performing team.

Functions
  • Provide training and on-the-job coaching to staff working in production and outlet areas.
  • Ensure accurate production through routine camera audits and effective training.
  • Responsible for ensuring all team members are producing quality items at the appropriate quantities by communicating with them and coaching them on a daily, weekly, and quarterly basis.
Responsibilities
  • Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
  • Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
  • Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
  • Oversee the production and processing of donations to meet and exceed production goals for the retail store and outlet.
  • Manage and develop team of production and outlet staff, providing coaching and support to improve performance and meet production targets.
  • Ensure that all merchandise on the sales floor meets the highest quality standards and is priced appropriately according to current quality and pricing guidelines.
  • Oversee the productivity, breaks, and daily scheduling of all outlet team members working in production stations and the outlet.
  • Ensure that the production area is organized safely so that all production is completed in a timely manner to achieve established goals.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sales, improve inventory turnover, and reduce costs.
  • Manage inventory levels and order new product as necessary.
  • Maintain the outlet areas to be clean and inviting with up-to-date, current signage.
  • Hold team members accountable for exceptional guest service in the outlet with routine communication on a daily, weekly, and quarterly basis.
  • Ensure the timely rotation of product through the outlet.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulations, including safety standards and inventory management procedures.
  • Collaborate with other managers and departments to achieve company-wide goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned by Retail Store Manager.
Requirements Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED with college coursework in retail, business management, or related field.
  • At least two years of managerial experience in a high volume fast-paced business - retail or other customer service-oriented environment preferred.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in retail, business management or related field is preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license without restrictions.

  • Ability to understand all areas of the retail operations and provide support, motivation, direction training to existing and new staff.
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities beneficial.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities, schedules and projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage people and situations effectively.
  • Good organizational skills required, must have strong communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Ability to plan and to be creative and naturally seek further professional growth.
  • Well-developed sense of responsibility and coping ability.
  • Ability to make quick accurate decisive decisions.
  • Ability to understand and accept people with barriers to employment and everyday living.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Physical And Other Requirements
  • Work environment is sometimes hectic with occasional high stress and occasional short deadlines.
  • Routinely walks, stands, pushes pulls, bends, kneels, reaches, twists and turns throughout the shift.
  • Medium lifting (20-50 pounds of force) with occasional heavy lifting (exerting 50-100 pounds of force).
  • Reliable transportation for bank deposits and emergency call ins.
