This position is responsible for safely operating Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), including forklifts and tow tractors, to support production, warehouse, dock, and waste handling operations throughout the facility. Responsibilities include picking up finished goods from packaging lines and delivering them to the dock; transporting raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products to and from warehouse locations; loading and unloading trailers; and storing materials in designated warehouse bins and locations.
The PIT Operator I is responsible for inspecting inbound materials to verify correct part numbers, quantities, temperatures, and quality; performing trailer inspections; pulling required material samples for quality inspection; and ensuring proper documentation and traceability. Duties include accurately completing inbound check sheets, entering vendor and shipment data into the ERP system, applying date codes, pallet tags, and handling unit labels to inbound pallets.
Additional responsibilities include operating dock lock systems; supplying, replacing, and emptying waste containers throughout the plant; manually scraping waste from waste chutes into waste hauling containers; scaling and documenting returned waste containers in the ERP system; maintaining waste logs; supplying and returning cardboard cages to production and packaging lines; and maintaining cleanliness and organization of waste, dock, and ram can areas.
The PIT Operator I is also responsible for changing and charging PIT and tow tractor batteries, performing basic equipment safety checks, and following all plant traffic patterns, driving rules, food safety, safety, and quality procedures. The role requires effective communication with employees at all levels of the plant and accurate completion of required forms and system entries.
This position may require occasionally unloading inbound semi-trailers, averaging approximately four (4) loads per week, with the ability to individually lift up to 50 pounds per carton for extended periods (approximately 2 to 2½ hours per load). The candidate must be willing and able to stand, walk, stop, climb, lift, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain company-issued PIT/forklift certification and complete required safety training, including Lockout/Tagout. The candidate must be willing to work all shifts, including weekends and overtime, as required by business needs.
