Overview

Do you have deep expertise in Toxicology or Pathology and a passion for scientific leadership? Join Charles River Laboratories, a global leader in preclinical research, as our Senior Director of Toxicology & Pathology at our Safety Assessment site in Tranent, Edinburgh.

This is a site-based role
, serving as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, you’ll oversee a department of 70+ scientists and managers across General Toxicology, Safety Pharmacology, Inhalation, DART, and In Vitro Toxicology—driving scientific excellence, operational efficiency, and strategic growth across disciplines.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of toxicology and pathology professionals.
  • Set the scientific direction and strategy for the division, ensuring quality and innovation in all safety assessment studies.
  • Represent Charles River at client meetings, industry events, and global leadership discussions.
  • Partner with senior leaders to align divisional goals with site and corporate objectives.
  • Oversee budgets, business planning, and client relationship management to ensure continued growth and excellence.
What You’ll Bring
  • Advanced degree (PhD/DVM/MSc) in Toxicology, Pathology, or related scientific field.
  • Extensive regulatory safety assessment experience within pharma, biotech, or CRO settings.
  • Proven line management and leadership experience, including managing managers.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Membership or certification in professional toxicology or pathology organizations (e.g., DABT, FRCPath) is highly desirable.
