Summary
This essential position may be assigned at any DLA site and cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission.
Responsibilities- Manage activity of officers performing the Field Training Officer (FTO) functions in DLA Installation Management.
- Oversee FTOs as they deliver routine, repetitive training and provide orientation for new police officers.
- Assess training needs for FTOs and develop in‑house training programs to augment formal training.
- Distribute and balance workload among employees in accordance with established workflow, ensuring timely completion.
- Patrol DLA installations and property to prevent crime, protect life and property, and enforce local regulations and laws.
- Order, issue, and maintain accountability of police equipment to assigned personnel.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Tour of Duty:
Flexible. - Security Requirements:
Non‑Critical Sensitive with Secret Access. - Appointment subject to favorable suitability or fitness determination; undesirable background checks result in removal.

Required – Physical fitness testing at designated DLA sites (New Cumberland, PA; Richmond, VA; Ft Belvoir, VA; Columbus, OH; Tracy, CA). Travel is at the candidate’s expense. - Licenses
Required:
Valid State Driver License. - Real‑ acceptable identification required for access to federal facilities.

- Character investigation may be conducted on selected applicants.
- Training:
Must complete basic police officer training within one year of employment at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or Department of the Army Civilian Policy Academy. - Firearm:
Must qualify initially and annually to maintain employment. - Psychological/Physical:
Must complete requisite battery of tests before hiring. - Physical fitness:
Initial and annual passes required to maintain employment.
To qualify as a Police Officer (Instructor) applicants must provide evidence of at least one year of specialized experience directly related to the position. Experience can include volunteer work such as Peace Corps or Ameri Corps.
- Practical knowledge of instructional techniques and curriculum development.
- Experience with law enforcement operations, regulations, and techniques, including maintaining order and protecting life and property.
- Ability to develop training classes and maintain training records using computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
The work requires significant physical exertion involving walking, bending, running, prolonged standing, climbing, and exposure to stressful situations. Candidates must pass an annual physical fitness test.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed both inside facilities and vehicles and outdoors in weather conditions ranging from well‑lighted to dark and inclement. Employees may confront hostile individuals and must use protective gear (masks, coats, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, gloves) when required.
