Assistant Store Manager – Ross Stores, Inc.

Overview

Your role as Assistant Store Manager will involve supervising store operations, leading the entire store when the Store Manager is absent, and ensuring that company standards and best practices are consistently met.

Responsibilities
  • Lead all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
  • Assist in analysis of store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance.
  • Communicate any variances to Company standards to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all State, Local and Federal regulations.
  • Conduct scheduling and completion of all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
  • Accept special assignments as directed by Leadership.
  • Administer payroll including daily punch edits, schedule compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and developing non‑exempt associates.
  • Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist with associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.
  • Assist in managing and continuously monitoring actual expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Control payroll hours and adjust to current business trends.
  • Maintain safety as the top priority, ensuring all associates understand and execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings.
  • Treat all customers, associates and other leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness and professionalism at all times; recognize associates using Company recognition programs.
  • Execute Customer Service and Merchandise Presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, Service Desk, fitting rooms, sales floor, etc.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code.
  • Manage the store to ensure a clean, neat, easy‑to‑shop environment.
  • Ensure merchandise recovery, sizing and markdowns meet Company standards.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented and organized per Company merchandising guidelines.
  • Urgently manage merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected time frame.
  • Assist with training associates on Loss Prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguard confidential information and merchandise.
  • Assist in leading the annual inventory process and ensure proper administration of the mark‑out‑of‑stock policy.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
  • Build and manage work processes, exercise business acumen, plan, align and prioritize, build talent, collaborate, lead by example, communicate effectively and ensure accountability and execution.
Qualifications and Special Skills
  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and communicate positively to associates at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintain high quality of customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PC.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach and stoop regularly.
  • Occasionally push, pull or lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
