Laborer II Trainee

Pay Schedule II, Grade H15, Regular

Schedule:

40 hours per week

Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Highways and Equipment Maintenance.

A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Current and future vacancies occurring within this class may be filled from the list of eligible applicants. All interested candidates must apply at this time.

Under close supervision, trains to drive and operate single‑axle, commercial weight vehicles and equipment.

• Drives commercial weight, single‑axle vehicles including dump, water, and tool trucks.
• Assists in salting and plowing roads during snow emergencies.
• Operates and tows equipment such as tractors with mowing or other attachments, stump grinders, rubber tire loaders, and rollers.
• Loads, unloads, or assists in loading and unloading equipment, tools, and materials.
• Performs various manual labor tasks.
• Assists in performing preventative maintenance and routine maintenance on trucks and/or equipment.
• Keeps simple records and logs.
• Participates in safety related training including, but not limited to, confined space and trench working conditions and the handling of hazardous materials.

May drive automobile, truck, or other non‑commercial weight vehicles. Performs other related duties as required.

Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non‑provisional, non‑commercial, class C Maryland driver's license.

Work experience with unskilled manual labor tasks.

Non‑Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non‑provisional, non‑commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application. If you have a driver's license from a state other than Maryland, you must submit a current copy of your driving record, and a copy of your driver's license.

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. All required fields in the Work Experience section must be completed; incomplete applications will not be considered.
