Schedule:
40 hours per week.
A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Transportation and Sign Shop. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Under general supervision, installs, repairs, and maintains traffic signs, posts, markings, and associated equipment.
EssentialJob Duties
- Participates in the operations of a traffic sign crew.
- Completes all types of traffic sign installations, repairs, and maintenance from work orders and location sketches.
- Makes field decisions concerning traffic sign locations.
- Meets and confers with utility company representatives for obtaining underground clearances.
- Operates and maintains a sign truck and associated equipment.
- Leads and instructs other mechanics and associates.
- Lays out and installs school crosswalks, intersection markings, prefabricated lane arrows, railroad crossings, and other road markings.
- Makes field decisions concerning installations.
- Operates and maintains a centerline paint truck.
May participate in a 24-hour emergency response crew. Performs other related duties as required.

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent;
Plus At least two years' experience in sign installation and maintenance or road marking.
Additional experience as described in the examples of essential duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application but must complete commercial, Class B within 10 months of hire.
This position will require possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver’s license and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. (License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)

Examination ProcedureApplicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Physical and Environmental ConditionsPositions in this classification perform duties which entail frequent walking, standing, lifting, and heavy manual labor. Duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather and traffic. Employees must be able to safely perform the duties without posing a threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
Medical Examination and Employment Background InvestigationApplicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
