- Oversee or share oversight of hospital-wide nursing services during evening, night, or weekend shifts.
- Review shift reports from preceding shifts to be apprised of activity and issues; make rounds or collaboratively manage rounds coverage to assure the quality of nursing services on all units.
- Monitor high‑risk and complicated cases and institute appropriate actions when real‑time decisions are needed.
- May reassign and reallocate nursing resources to meet building needs.
- Provide significant input into the performance appraisal and competency assessment of nursing staff.
- Communicate effectively with the CNO, Unit Managers/Directors, Senior Nursing Directors, and the staffing office.
- Participate in the development of nursing policies, procedures, standards of practice, and in the planning and evaluation of nursing operations.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program, a current RN license in Maryland, and at least 3 years of psychiatric nursing experience, with at least 2 years in an inpatient setting. BSN preferred. Experience must include:
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric nursing.
- Strong clinical and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of the specialized needs of varying patient populations.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative work relationships.
- Proven ability to make effective clinical decisions in the moment.
- General knowledge of TJC and regulatory requirements.
- Computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical record, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, scheduling system, and electronic medication dispensing.
- Interpersonal skills to provide effective leadership and coordination of nursing staff on assigned shift and to interact respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Problem‑solving skills to manage resources, respond quickly to emergencies, and participate in the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of nursing services.
- Ability to adapt to multiple demands, maintaining high level of stress and mental fatigue.
- Ability to quickly identify issues, intervene, and elevate as necessary.

The pay range for this position is $37.33/hr minimum to $61.52/hr maximum. Pay is determined by factors such as years and level of related experience.
