Position Summary

World Relief Baltimore seeks an immigration attorney who will provide direct representation to clients of the Immigration Legal Services program who have viable affirmative immigration relief. The immigration staff attorney will offer immigration legal advice and education to immigrant community members. This position will represent clients before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (Department of Homeland Security) and in limited scope representation before EOIR (Immigration Court).

This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement for one year from hire date.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Provide substantive legal screening to determine clients’ immigration benefit or relief eligibility.
  • Explain immigration relief and/or benefits and advise clients on best actions to take for their specific case.
  • Prepare benefit applications and represent clients at USCIS interviews; including filing applications, advocating for clients, and corresponding with USCIS, as well as Requests for Evidence/Notices of Intent to Deny/Terminate, and appeals in limited circumstances.
  • Perform factual and legal research for client services and regularly monitor developments in immigration law and procedure.
  • Engage in immigration legal trainings, case review meetings, and conferences.
  • Provide information and referrals to library patrons at the Lawyer in the Library:
    Immigration Information program at Enoch Pratt Free Library.
Job Requirements
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals  For the Health of The Nation document
  • Licensed attorney in a jurisdiction in the United States, and in good standing in all jurisdictions where admitted.
  • 1+ years of recent experience in family-based and humanitarian-based immigration law.
  • Knowledge of the Immigration and Nationality Act, including experience in humanitarian immigration relief (asylum, U Visas, and VAWA), and family-based immigration processes, Naturalization, TPS, DACA, and humanitarian parole
  • Strong commitment to legal ethics and ability to keep information confidential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to speak Spanish or other languages.
  • Experience in removal defense, crimmigration (analysis of criminal history), consular processing, SIJS, or T Visas.
  • Familiarity with Equifax (aka Law Logix)…
