Serve as the Team Leader for the Traffic Safety Engineering Team by providing leadership and management of day-to-day operations. Responsible for evaluating safety benefits and impacts of transportation projects, developing recommendations to improve safety, analyzing crash data, identifying systemic safety issues, and coordinating the Highway Safety Improvement Program. Also develop the annual highway safety report.

• Provide leadership and management of the traffic safety engineering team.
• Evaluate safety benefits and impacts of transportation projects.
• Recommend safety improvements to support SHA and FHWA safety goals.
• Analyze crash data and identify systemic safety problems.
• Coordinate the Highway Safety Improvement Program.
• Develop the annual highway safety report.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Experience: Seven (7) years of professional engineering experience.

  Three and a half (3½) years of experience in traffic engineering.

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Knowledge of national and state guidelines and standards related to transportation engineering and safety analysis.
• Planning, organizing, and coordinating statewide programs and projects.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of database management and safety data analysis for Maryland’s roads.

• Additional professional engineering experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
• A master’s degree in engineering may substitute one year of non‑supervisory experience.
• Professional Engineers registered in Maryland or a comparable state are considered to have met the education requirement.

Motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland.
