Nature of WorkThis licensed Professional Engineer serves as Team Leader within the Traffic Engineering Design Division (TEDD), directing the statewide Traffic Engineering Remedial Program of Structures (TERPS). The role leads and supervises a team of licensed and non‑licensed engineers and consultants to plan, design, review, and deliver remedial engineering projects for Traffic Control Device (TCD) and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) structures. Core responsibilities include developing and maintaining the statewide asset inventory;
planning and managing condition assessments, routine and preventive maintenance, and emergency inspections; performing and/or directing structural analyses; and managing the data and reporting systems that support inspection, inventory, and maintenance activities.
The position also serves as a technical expert for TCD/ITS structural standards and procedures—developing and updating guidelines, specifications, manuals, and training—and coordinating with internal offices, consultants, contractors, and local jurisdictions to resolve structural issues and ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
Minimum Qualifications- Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.
- One (1) year of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed, professional engineer.
- One (1) year of experience in the design and management of structural remedial engineering and/or structural inspection.
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Experience in designing and managing structural remedial engineering or structural inspection.
- Experience in program management including setting priorities, developing project scope and schedule, and managing program budget.
- Experience with asset management/maintenance system.
- Proficient in conditional and emergency inspection of TCD/ITS structures and providing QA/PC reviews for inspections.
- Proficient in TCD/ITS structures repair and rehabilitation services.
- Knowledge of professional transportation structural engineering principles, federal/state traffic engineering regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Standards and Specification for construction and materials used for traffic control devices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team management skills.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland.
