A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Engineering and Transportation, Bureau of Engineering and Construction.

Under general supervision, serves as a project engineer for various storm water drainage and floodplains management projects.
Provides advanced-level engineering project management for Storm Drainage and Floodplains Management Section within the Bureau of Engineering & Construction for the Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) while relying on a solid background in land development engineering and/or development permitting review. These projects include sustainable drainage projects to reduce flooding and alleviate strain on existing storm water conveyances. Work includes management of design through construction of projects via supervision of in-house and consultant engineers and contractors.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Coordinates all aspects of assigned storm drainage engineering projects from planning through construction including: development of procurement documentation for advertisement, technical evaluation of proposals for designs, coordination with Real Estate Compliance for right of way and/or easement acquisition, facilitating community communications and public meetings, review and approval of outsourced or internally prepared plans, computations and specifications for assigned projects.
- Assists in the annual preparation of capital improvement budgets and programs.
- Directs or leads professional and support staff within the section.
- Resolves design issues, prepares and reviews correspondence relating to projects, and coordinates projects with external agencies.
- Reviews and approves plans and specifications for storm drainage infrastructure.
- Utilizes computer software programs in the development of capital projects, including GIS and computer aided drafting and design (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Conducts and/or directs professional and support staff in conducting various engineering related studies and to solve technical design problems.
- Serves as project engineer for consultant designed projects.
- Reviews and approves scope and fees of consultant proposals, reviews design milestone submissions and prepares consulting agreements.
- Monitors budgets and schedules of assigned projects and approves consultant invoices for work completed.
- In conjunction with other County offices, reviews and comments on development plans and reports with respect to conformance of requisite County standards and construction details.
- Reviews storm water management, storm drain and sediment control plans and computations and other environmental reports.
- Ensuresallnecessarypermitsandregulatoryapprovalsareacquiredpriortoconstructionofprojects.
- Coordinates necessary utility relocations with impacted stakeholder(s) (i.e. BGE, Verizon, Comcast, etc.)
- Facilitates o participates in community meetings and public hearings for the Department.
- Investigates and responds to resident complaints regarding County green/sustainable infrastructure,
- Meets with the public and other agencies and prepares or oversees the preparation of resulting correspondence or meeting summaries.
May act as a spokesperson in right-of-way condemnation cases or act as a witness in other judicial proceedings. Performs other related duties as required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering
plusFour years' field or office engineering experience.
