Operations Manager, Civil Engineering
The Construction Manager is responsible for directing, planning, and managing construction activities for large-scale infrastructure and energy projects. This is an onsite, field-based role requiring daily presence at the project location. The position provides on-site leadership and oversight to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and contractual requirements.
Projects may include high voltage transmission lines, HVDC converter stations, substations, solar and wind energy facilities, energy storage initiatives, and other complex infrastructure programs.
The Construction Manager serves as a key liaison between project management, contractors, engineering teams, and stakeholders while leading daily field execution.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage day-to-day construction activities for assigned projects
- Oversee contractor performance to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety standards
- Monitor project milestones, key performance indicators, and overall construction progress
- Provide daily field oversight including documentation, reporting, inspections, and quality assurance
- Support development of project execution plans and construction strategies
- Participate in constructability reviews and provide input during project planning and design phases
- Manage construction elements of procurement including review of contracts, change orders, submittals, and RFIs
- Support negotiation and administration of professional service, material, and construction contracts
- Coordinate field resources, inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and contractor interfaces
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, design standards, permits, and regulatory requirements
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and ensure all personnel adhere to established safety protocols
- Maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Lead project meetings and provide clear communication to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Estimate labor and material costs as needed to support planning and budgeting efforts
- Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of company and project information
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and eight years of related experience.
OR
- Associate degree and ten years of related experience.
- Related experience includes construction management, project management, engineering, infrastructure development, budgeting, or related disciplines.
- Experience in electric utility, renewable energy, industrial, or heavy civil construction environments is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction management principles and project execution methodologies
- Experience managing large-scale capital infrastructure projects
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, contracts, and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of construction contracting methods and strategies
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Experience with project scheduling tools such as Primavera is preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Hourly pay range: $75 – $85 per hour depending on experience
- Position qualifies for overtime pay
- GSA rate per diem provided when applicable
