Senior Stress Engineer – Formula 1 | Motorsport Valley (UK)

The Role
As Senior Stress Engineer
, you’ll lead and deliver structural and stress analysis activities across composite and metallic components, ensuring the highest standards of performance, safety and reliability
. Working closely with design, R&D, manufacturing and trackside teams
, you’ll influence key design decisions and support validation throughout the lifecycle – from concept to race.
- Perform structural and stress analysis (FEA and hand calculations) from concept to final release
- Produce detailed stress reports and validation documentation
- Lead and coordinate analysis activities across assemblies and junior analysts
- Investigate component damage and failures, identifying root causes and corrective actions
- Monitor in‑service behaviour of car components and support validation testing
- Collaborate with design, R&D and manufacturing teams to deliver lightweight, robust solutions
- Contribute to the development of stress, sizing and analysis methodologies
- Provide trackside engineering support during test and race events (occasional)
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience with carbon fibre composites and metallic structures
- Strong theoretical and practical expertise in FEA
- Advanced user of Altair Hyper Mesh / Opti Struct and/or Abaqus
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX and CNC / DMLS manufacturing processes
- Proven senior‑level stress analysis experience in Formula 1 or motor sport
- Strong communication skills with a proactive, problem‑solving mindset
- Flexibility to travel within Europe for race and test events (~1 week per month)
