Plant Manager

Metals USA – Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Plant Manager in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth‑oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center. The Plant Manager is responsible to manage and develop the front‑line supervisors and hourly employees.

The Plant Manager will execute production safety, housekeeping, recruitment, orientation and training of all new hires as well as on‑going training and development of the entire production workforce. The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring a preventive maintenance program and warehouse functions comply with Metals USA, Reliance Steel and Aluminum and all regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Initiates and executes production plan and process, clarifies and exceeds production goals. Creates production schedule and workflow duty assignments.
  • Interacts with all departments to ensure optimal production and on‑time delivery schedule.
  • Recruits, hires, orient/trains and retains production front‑line supervisors and employees. Leads an ongoing world‑class production orientation program.
  • Strives continually to improve manpower utilization to align with production process in order to positively impact revenue.
  • Supervises the receipt of incoming material shipments, verifying that appropriate receipt and quality control inspections are completed in a timely manner and appropriate transactions are made to complete the receiving process.
  • Ensures that materials in the warehouse are stored properly, inspected and processed via accepted material handling and warehousing principles. Supervises and participates in the physical inventory control process.
  • Supervises staging of materials to support timely delivery of materials, prepare shipments of items as required and prepare materials for processing to scrap.
  • Develops, implements and executes production tracking and quality control systems to analyze production quality control and capacity utilization.
  • Ensures that collective bargaining agreement, if applicable, is effectively administered, and is in compliance with the current collective bargaining agreement language.
  • Strives continually to improve workplace safety awareness and achieves an injury‑free work environment. Develops and implements a world‑class safety culture.
  • Maintains individual knowledge/skill and experience as required to ensure optimal production acumen.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Plant Manager in the warehouse.
  • Adheres to, explains and enforces all company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
  • Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
  • Executes a safe and injury‑free environment; ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Adheres to all company, customer and employee confidentiality requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Occupation requires physical activity more than 80% of the time (> 6.5 hours per day)

  • Stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use of hands and fingers, hand‑eye coordination reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
  • Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51–100 lbs. with assistance

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Steel‑toed boots
  • Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
  • Protective eyewear
  • Visual Acuity requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Hand protection
  • Arm guards/sleeves
  • Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Work Environment

May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.

  • Working both inside and outside of the warehouse facility
  • Exposure to all weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation and snow
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Vibration
  • Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
  • Day shift primarily, but will be required to work all shifts as needed
