Phlebotomist II Site Lead
Location:
Torrington, CT
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with rotational weekends
Pay range: $21.31–$23.55 per hour
Represents the face of Quest Diagnostics to patients who come for health routine or insights into life‑defining health decisions. The PSR II – Site Lead draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The PSR II – Site Lead has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens skillfully, safely and accurately.
Directs daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP) and may also lead one or more PSRs on site. Demonstrates Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence, sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy of patient information. May be assigned to a doctor’s office, a patient service center, in‑house call environment, long‑term care or as business needs require.

- Collect specimens according to established procedures (e.g., drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams).
- Administer oral solutions according to established training.
- Research test/client information and confirm all written and electronic orders using lab technology systems or a directory of services.
- Complete all data entry accurately, including patient registration, test orders and standing orders.
- Enter billing information and collect payments when required, safeguarding assets and credit card information.
- Process specimens (label, centrifuge, split, freeze) as required by test order.
- Perform departmental clerical duties (inventory, stock supplies, answering phones) when assigned.
- Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures, ensuring all staff follow instructions.
- Verify patient demographics and obtain post‑venipuncture signatures to confirm correct labeling.
- Assist with monthly statistics and data submission.
- Maintain phlebotomy logs (maintenance, temperature) timely and per frequency.
- Complete training courses and stay current with phlebotomy techniques.
- Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off‑site or off‑normal shift.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Stay up to date on company communications and distribute technical information to the work group.
- Perform POC testing at sites where needed and complete training/competency evaluations per SOP.
- Act as mentor and resource for new employees, assisting with transition into PSC workflow.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems to group leader or supervisor.
- Assist with schedule preparation for the assigned workgroup or PSCs.
- Communicate professionally with clients, resolve issues, document problems, and report critical matters.
- Ensure staff follow safety precautions (lab coat, gloves, face shield).
- Assist supervisors with implementing SOPs for phlebotomy services per Quest Diagnostics guidelines.
- Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and well‑maintained, reporting repairs or maintenance as needed.
- Serve as coach, mentor, instructor and resource advisor for new employees and provide regular input to group lead or supervisor.
- Three years phlebotomy experience, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime.
