Applications/Design Engineer – Torrington, CT
DESCRIPTION:The RBC Division is in search of an Application Engineer to be located in Torrington, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for both design and application of Aerospace bearings reporting to the Application Engineering group leader.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:- Provide technical support to the Sales force in the areas of bearing design, design improvements, customer support, production support and review of new applications.
- Works with customers to resolve technical problems and makes technical presentations with the Sales Engineers at target accounts.
- Review of new applications and provide technical solutions to ensure product performance.
- Responsible for the conceptual design engineering of new products, special products and contribute to the improvement of existing products and manufacturing methods to meet customer demands.
- Technical consultant on product design, application and service problems, quality deviations and material and parts substitution. Assists in the technical education of sales trainees and personnel of other departments.
- Functions as an engineering consultant to manufacturing on problems related to the manufacture of the company’s products.
- Provides product design requirements to product designers assigned to specific projects and assures that all detail process step drawings are in conformance to the requirements and technical specifications.
- Establishes bearing testing requirements and test plans and reports test results to customers to gain product approval.
- Responsible for establishing new products into the MRP AS400 system and creating the associated Bill-of-Material.
- Responsible for approving new product designs and releasing designs to manufacturing.
- Supports lean enterprise activities in support of API Plant objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree with major in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
- 3+ years in Applications/Design Engineering
- Project Management
- Customer Interface and relationship building
- USA working eligibility required.
- Bearing design principles and practices
- Mechanical design principles and practices
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Company products and manufacturing processes
- ITAR Regulations
- Familiarity with and ability to interpret customer and industry standards and specifications.
- Lean Enterprise methods
- Solid Modeling CAD Software
- Familiarity with various operating systems
- Knowledge of bearing test lab equipment and capabilities
- Bearing failure evaluation and analysis
- Able to analyze data to make decisions relative to product performance and manufacturing.
- Able to create and make technical presentations
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Excellent communication skills, capability to effectively interact with customers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Occasional Travel to Customer locations
