Our client is seeking a strong HR Ops and Payroll/Benefits lead. This role is temp to hire with a minimum of 6 months durations. Please do not apply if you are not willing to work onsite, this is an in office role 4 days.
Rate - $50-70 per hour, w2 through Conexus
Key Responsibilities Payroll- Own end-to-end payroll processing (weekly or bi-weekly), including new hires, terminations, bonuses, and PTO payouts
- Ensure payroll accuracy, resolve issues, and manage off-cycle payrolls as needed
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll, support month-end close, and manage payroll reporting
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws (exempt/non-exempt, overtime, state requirements)
- Administer all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans
- Serve as primary contact for benefits vendors, carriers, and brokers
- Lead open enrollment and benefits communications in a clear, employee-friendly way
- Support employees with benefit questions, life events, and issue resolution
- Assist with benefits renewals, plan comparisons, and cost management
- Manage HR operational processes across the employee lifecycle (onboarding, changes, terminations)
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure HRIS data integrity
- Own HR documentation, forms, and basic policy administration
- Support compliance requirements (I-9s, personnel files, required postings)
- Act as primary owner of the HRIS and payroll system
- Create and improve simple, scalable HR processes that work for a small team
- Produce basic HR and payroll reports for leadership as needed
- Ensure HR operations comply with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Partner with leadership on operational HR questions and employee issues
- Support audits or compliance reviews as needed (benefits, payroll, or labor)
- 5–8+ years of HR operations experience with direct payroll and benefits ownership
- Experience supporting a small company or startup environment
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, benefits administration, and HR compliance
- Hands-on experience with payroll/HR systems (e.g., Gusto, Rippling, ADP, Paychex, Paylocity)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently
- Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
