An Accounting Manager oversees a company's financial operations by managing accounting staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, preparing financial reports, analyzing financial data, budgeting, forecasting, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision‑making within the organization; the role serves as the leader of the accounting team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring proper financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze comprehensive financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage annual budgets, forecast future financial performance, and monitor variances against budget.
- Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory standards, including tax laws.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, assign tasks, review work, and provide professional development opportunities.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
- Audit Coordination: Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate smooth audit processes and address any audit findings.
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify key performance indicators (KPIs), assess profitability, and provide insights to management for strategic decision‑making.
- Accounting Policies and Procedures: Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, manage cash receipts and disbursements, and forecast future cash needs.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial information clearly to senior management, department heads, and other stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools
- Leadership and supervisory skills to manage a team
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Bilingual in English and Japanese
