Manufacturing Engineer; Inserts

Overview

Manufacturing Engineer position at Howmet Fastening Systems in Torrance, CA. Responsible for product development and qualification for product lines at the Torrance location.

• Plan, initiate, and drive development of new fastener products and improvements
• Collaborate and build relationships with customers on fastener concepts and qualification activities
• Initiate and prepare product samples and tests for customers and internal management
• Oversee qualification testing and prepare qualification reports in accordance with customer procurement specifications to become an approved supplier
• Create and revise product drawings, specifications, and product control documents in accordance with customer requirements
• Support Sales and Application Engineering activities
• Support customers with troubleshooting through detailed analysis of fastener and installation system problems, including supporting corrective actions as needed
• Oversee manufacturing planning, drawings, and router preparation to ensure proper flow from drawing to completion of parts, including tooling, manufacturing operations, processing, testing, and suppliers
• Provide feedback to Operations management on opportunities for manufacturing process improvements that improve safety, quality, reduce costs, or increase productivity
• Participate as a key member of cross-functional teams engaged in manufacturing process improvement
• Be a key member of MRB to investigate product rejections and provide researched decisions
• Prepare and document Design and Development activities in accordance with AS9100 Quality standard
• Work with laboratories on testing and preparation of test data
• Utilize analytical tools and simulation software to evaluate product performance and interactions
• Complete all backup, filing and data management to maintain a reliable database of key information
• Ensure all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from a 4-year university
• Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering
• Authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
• ITAR: U.S. person status required (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylum, or Refugee)

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering
• Knowledge of Aerospace forging, machining, and fastening processes
• Knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and scientific problem-solving methods
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects across all organization levels
• Experience managing multiple complex projects with tight deadlines and resource constraints
• Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn quickly and prioritize to meet customer and company needs
• Problem-solving skills with evidence-based conclusions
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts and practical design solutions
• Ability to generate reports and documentation including work instructions and procedures

• Must be able to work on site in Torrance, California. Remote work is not considered.
