Director of Electrical & Embedded Engineering
The Director of Electrical & Embedded Engineering leads a multidisciplinary team in the development of advanced ProAV and embedded systems for Medical, Defense, and Enterprise markets. This hands‑on leadership role requires quick thinking, intelligence, and a blend of technical excellence, project execution, and people development. The role is based in Torrance, CA and offers a fast‑paced, high‑impact work environment with opportunities for professional growth.
Responsibilities- Lead the development of embedded hardware architectures to meet performance and production cost targets.
- Conduct schematic capture and PCB layout review ensuring signal integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal management.
- Integrate microcontrollers, FPGAs, and SoCs with communication interfaces such as I²C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, RS‑232/422/485, and PCIe.
- Support firmware and HDL development for embedded control, communication, and real‑time video transport.
- Oversee and contribute to the design of analog, digital, and mixed‑signal circuits for video, control, and power systems.
- Define and execute design verification and validation testing, including board bring‑up, stress testing, and environmental qualification.
- Conduct and participate in peer reviews of design, circuit, and code.
- Troubleshoot complex design and integration challenges across analog, digital, and high‑speed domains.
- Develop and maintain processes for hardware engineering to reduce errors and improve design cycle time.
- Interface with internal teams, customers, and vendors to define requirements and ensure satisfaction with delivered solutions.
- Mentor and manage a team of electrical and embedded engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Exercise independent judgment in project management, including scheduling, resource planning, and milestone tracking.
- Oversee all stages of electrical design projects ensuring high technical standards and timely delivery.
- Provide weekly status updates and technical guidance to the Sr. Director of Engineering.
- Lead formal design and progress reviews and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, software, production, and QA teams to achieve integrated product success.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience designing and troubleshooting embedded electronic systems in mission‑critical or high‑reliability industries.
- 3+ years of management or team leadership experience.
- Proven hands‑on experience with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and mixed‑signal board‑level design.
- Proficiency in FPGA development and microcontroller firmware.
- Experience leading root cause analysis and writing 8D failure reports for customer hardware issues.
Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience with video and networking interfaces such as HDMI, Display Port, SDI, DVI, and Ethernet.
- Experience with medical or military design and test standards.
- Familiarity with high‑speed digital design, power regulation, and EMI/EMC compliance.
- Working knowledge of Ethernet networking concepts, PHYs, and switches.
- Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office Suite.
The position is based in Torrance, CA and is not a remote or hybrid role. The environment is fast‑paced and high‑impact, with extended hours as needed, and encourages creativity, teamwork, tenacity, empathy, and critical thinking.

Pay And BenefitsPay range: $180,000 – $230,000 per year.
