Job Overview
The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for the anticipated part‑time faculty Counseling positions for the year starting summer or fall 2026 semester, beginning July 2026. El Camino College is seeking individuals to provide counseling services to a diverse student population including new and re‑entering students; those pursuing career and transfer goals, and academic progress/probation for program specific and general student population.
The assignments may be in a myriad of areas counseling services are assigned including, but not limited to, CalWORKS, EOPS/CARE, First Year Experience, Honors Transfer Program, International Student, Dual‑Enrollment/Early College/Career Pathways, Noncredit/ESL/Adult Secondary Education, Special Resource Center (DSPS), TRiO (SSS), Veterans, meta major counseling areas or an equity based program (such as undocumented/mixed status immigrant students (Dreamer Resource Center), current/former Foster Youth Student Success (Next Up & Guardian Scholars), formerly‑incarcerated/system impacted (FIRST), Student Equity and Achievement, etc.).
Positions may include holistic and intrusive counseling, case management, and working collaboratively with instructional faculty as embedded counselors and/or presenting in classrooms or in course learning management system for online courses. Further assignments may include recruitment into a special program or cohort and working with faculty and staff to promote equity mindedness and cultural responsiveness.
- Counseling students in all academic and career/technical areas.
- Providing virtual counseling and/or group counseling.
- Participation in the matriculation process, including assessment, orientation, development of student education plans and identifying retention strategies to achieve desired outcome and follow‑up.
- Teaching in the area of career planning and/or orientation.
- Career planning with deciding students, counseling probation/dismissal status students.
- Recruitment, and in fostering continuing relationships with District high schools, and other duties as assigned by dean.
- Maintaining records of services provided to prospective and current students.
- Assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.
- Working evenings, weekends, and/or student support services for dual enrollment courses offered offsite on high school campuses.
- Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology; guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or family and child counseling; or EOPS position requires additional qualifications as listed below; OR
- The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
- Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355).
Required Qualifications for Extended Opportunity Programs and Services
- Two years of occupational experience relating to ethnic minorities or persons challenged by language, social or economic disadvantages, AND minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages, OR
- Six (6) semester units or the equivalent of college‑level counseling practicum or acceptable counseling fieldwork courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.
