An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly team at the South Devon Satellite Kidney Unit, on the outskirts of Torquay.
The South Devon Satellite Kidney Unit is a nurse-led outpatient dialysis unit with 24 stations, providing haemodialysis 6 days a week.
Renal experience is not necessary for applicants as full haemodialysis training will be given.

More detail about the role
On completion of renal competencies, the post holder will be required to:
- prioritise, assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of care, including haemodialysis treatment and care of dialysis access
- work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to on‑going assessment of patients to optimise treatment and promote best outcomes
- act as a shift coordinator and delegate to team members, supervising unregistered staff
- promote high standards of quality care, in line with Trust values, policies and protocols
- undertake link nurse roles to ensure the holistic needs of patients are met and unit resources are managed effectively
- participate in continued professional development, including mandatory updates and renal specific competencies
Applicants should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and will be required to work collaboratively with dialysis unit staff and the wider renal MDT to provide high standards of clinical practice, as well as aspiring to improve services for patients.
The post holder will be supported in their role by the Clinical Nurse Manager and band 6 Charge Nurses, as well as the existing team of very experienced haemodialysis nurses, assistant practitioners and HCAs.
Working Pattern: Contracted hours are worked over a 4 week roster period, with 1-2 shifts per week. The working pattern will be a mixture of early (07:30-18:30) and late (12:00-23:00) shifts worked Monday‑Saturday. We are closed on Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with no overnight working required.
