Overview
Ainslie ward at Torbay Hospital are recruiting for a full-time Healthcare Support Worker to join our fast paced 26 bedded Trauma and Orthopaedic ward.
As a Healthcare Support Worker on Ainslie ward you'll help patients during their stay by ensuring they receive quality care and support. Every day will be different, and you will work effectively alongside Registered Nurses/Practitioners within the ward as required on a daily basis. You will be supported with your development needs through in-house training and external courses, with regular supervision and appraisals to help you reach your maximum potential.

Working pattern You will be required to work a combination of long days and nights on an 11.5 hour shift, including weekends and bank holidays. This is a fixed-term contract for 1 year.
Main duties of the job- Observing, monitoring and recording patients’ conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.
- Communicating with patients, relatives and carers and assisting with clinical duties.
- Providing personal care including infection prevention and control, assisting with food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels within and outside the department.
- Attending ward/unit meetings and encouraging effective communications between staff.
- Participating in the delivery of planned care at the direction of Registered Nurses/Senior Clinical Staff.

- Knowledge and experience:
Understands the need for strict confidentiality; previous experience in a care environment or demonstrable caring nature/life experience
Desirable
- Working knowledge of complex care needs of some families including safeguarding (Children & Adults), domestic abuse and mental health
Qualifications and Training
- Essential: GCSEs (grade C/5 or above) in maths and English, or Functional Skills level 2 in both
