POSITION SUMMARY
A Driver- CDL (B) is responsible for safely operating a collection truck, providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. The incumbent ensures the vehicle is in compliance with company safety standards prior to operation, adheres to all company, state and federal regulations while driving, and completes vehicle condition reports (VCRs) daily to ensure timely repairs of any vehicle defects.
PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs complete pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle in accordance with company policies to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order. Reports any safety issues on standard reports.
- Safely operates a heavy truck along designated routes and to the disposal site; reads route sheet, follows map and provides services to customers as assigned.
- Operates manual and/or automatic controls to comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, backing, etc.) as well as with company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Courteously interacts with all customers, colleagues and others on a daily basis to ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Identifies unsatisfactory waste containers and tags containers in accordance with applicable departmental procedures.
- May process hazardous and non-hazardous materials as needed.
- May operate a company hydrovac unit when needed.
- Continuously monitors the condition of the vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize downtime; cleans waste from the packer blade and truck body (where appropriate) on each disposal trip.
- Cleans area around an accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies.
- Maintains adherence to required productivity standards for the department to ensure all customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
- Class A & B or higher Commercial Driver’s license with air brakes endorsement (required).
- Current 40‑hour HAZWOPER Training or ability to pass course Ely upon hire (required).
- DZ License or higher (required).
- 2–4 years of related driving experience or training.
