Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Aviation Safety Compliance and Enforcement, this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the airside at Toronto Pearson and all those that work airside. This involves providing emergency response in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), Incident Management System (IMS) and AEP Support Roles; responding to accidents, incidents, aviation safety and regulatory compliance concerns and complaints and violations relating to the airside aviation support related portions of the terminals and ground side;

conducting initial information gathering as it pertains to initial investigations, interviews, provision of written statements, preparing and completing reports and root cause analysis; providing safety and security support through planned activity inspections for the identification of suspicious persons and/or packages; monitoring and enforcing airport operations on a 24/7/365 basis to ensure compliance with GTAA rules and regulations.

  • Respond to AEP incidents, assume Incident Command (IC) as per IMS, provide initial first‑aid, situational assessment, establish control of the scene, initiate emergency environmental protection, information gathering, emergency escort(s) and perform IMS or AEP supporting roles as assigned by the IC.
  • Monitor, educate and enforce the Airside Vehicle Operators Permits and Airport Traffic Directives, including investigation of all airside accidents and incidents as well as airfield incursions and operational irregularities.
  • Inspect physical security equipment/systems to ensure conformance.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners regarding matters related to Airport Operations, including Peel Regional Police, CATSA, CBSA, Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada.
  • Ensure compliance of and respond to security breaches and non‑compliance of the Airport Security Program.
  • Monitor airside construction activities ensuring compliance with the Airside Activity Program, Airport Construction Code, Airside Flagging Procedures and Access Control Regulations.
  • Inspect to ensure security and safety of the Primary Security Line.
  • Complete all Incident Reports and root cause analysis as related to any of the above accountabilities.
  • Monitor compliance of protocols associated with labor issues/disputes and tenant security program to minimize operational impacts to GTAA operations.
  • Assist in collection of data for airside safety initiatives such as ATD compliance, FOD walks, audits, GSE parking, etc.
  • Enforce the GSE parking plan and implementation of the GTAA Tow Policy.
  • Attend meetings as a representative for Aviation Safety Officers and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • 3 years’ experience working in airport operations or 3 years’ experience in airline operations in a supervisory or lead hand capacity.
  • 1 year of experience in Safety Management Systems or as part of a Safety Committee.
  • Possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s license.
  • Within 30 days of appointment the ability to acquire First Aid and CPR certification; having these certifications will be considered an asset.
