Program Overview – Housing Operations East, Housing Services Unit. The Housing Services Coordinator is accountable to the Manager, Housing Operations & Community Development and plays a key role in the day-to-day management of Wood Green’s housing sites. The position is responsible for overseeing the physical, administrative, and operational components of assigned properties, ensuring safe, well-maintained, and efficiently operated housing environments that support tenant stability and well-being.
The role operates within a subsidized housing setting and supports tenant engagement to foster inclusive and collaborative housing communities.
Housing Administration & Tenant Relations Responsibilities
- Administer Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) housing in compliance with the Housing Services Act, including annual income reviews, ongoing calculations, and required tenant notifications.
- Manage tenant intake and onboarding, including background checks, lease generation, move-ins, and orientation to housing policies, rights, and responsibilities.
- Oversee rent collection and arrears management, establish repayment plans, and prepare or follow up on Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) notices as required.
- Use a case management and eviction-prevention approach to support tenants in maintaining housing stability, addressing barriers through referrals, case conferencing, and coordinated supports.
- Provide tenants with clear, accessible information regarding their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act, Ministry of Housing requirements, and organizational policies.
- Facilitate tenant engagement and leadership, supporting participation in building governance, community standards, and shared decision-making within a tenant-directed management model.
- Mediate conflict and crisis situations, addressing tenancy-related concerns with a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and human-rights-based approach.
- Develop and support community-building initiatives that foster inclusion, connection, empowerment, and positive relationships among residents from diverse backgrounds.
- Act as a service broker and liaison, connecting tenants (with consent) to internal and external supports and strengthening collaboration with community partners and service providers.
- Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and reporting, monitoring tenant needs and communicating emerging issues and trends to management.
General Responsibilities
- Coordinate with building services, contractors, and third parties to ensure safe, well-maintained housing, including unit inspections, work orders, and follow-up communication with tenants and staff.
- Educate tenants on preventative and basic maintenance expectations, supporting shared accountability for unit upkeep.
- Serve as an on-site point of contact for contractors and partners accessing housing sites.
