Salary Range: TFS has a salary grid for non-unionized employees, which is determined by the nature of the position and the candidate’s level of experience. For this position, the prorated annual salary range is: C $ 62,720 - 72,320

About the position

As a dedicated member of the Health & Wellness Team and part of the Learning Forum support services team, the social worker will provide consultative expertise and brief therapeutic support to students and their families to develop positive social-emotional skills and overall well-being. The social worker will report to the Executive Director of the Learning Forum and be in clinical collaboration with the school’s other part-time School Social Worker.

With a thorough knowledge of the psycho-social needs of young adolescents and connected to external resources and services within the community, the social worker will promote an inclusive, pro-active and integrated approach to support for students and families.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct case reviews with school counselors to assess student and family needs

  • Consult with students, parents and faculty

  • Provide direction and assistance in support of psychosocial health and programming for the well-being of all students and those with specific needs

  • Create partnerships with community agencies and outside professionals to ensure timely and targeted support for students and the TFS school community

  • Connect and liaise with community agencies as required, providing insights from research and effective practices

  • Provide crisis intervention services

  • Provide expertise for parent programs and education

  • Develop and facilitate group sessions for students as required

  • Manage and maintain student records and caseload ensuring services are integrated and seamless.

  • Help direct and train staff in accordance with provincial and education law and comply with policies that relate to students and families; such as, child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights and privacy

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate profile is as follows:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work and membership in good standing in O.C.S.W.S.S.W.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably working in educational and clinical settings with youth

Other Competencies or Attributes:

  • Ability to identify, assess and respond to sensitive and confidential student and community issues.

  • Collaborative approach to team-based student wellness support

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a caring, inclusive and accepting learning community.

  • Exceptional active listening interpersonal skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. French language skills are an asset.

  • Demonstrates ability to respectfully and directly manage high conflict, challenging situations

  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times

  • Expertise in crisis counselling

  • Expertise in coaching and/or counselling with teens and families

  • Deep knowledge of community resources for a wide range of student psychosocial needs

  • Demonstrates inter-cultural competencies
