The Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) is responsible for accurately locating and marking underground utilities within a designated area. This includes providing detailed sketches of the located area to the requester. Using company-provided equipment, DPTs will identify utilities such as gas, water, sewer, fiber optic cables, and electrical lines, mark them using spray paint or flags, and document the findings. Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Complete Locates:
Use electronic devices, including a receiver wand and transmitter, to locate and verify underground utilities. - Marking and Documentation:
Mark utility and create detailed drawings of the located area. Prepare reports and documentation verifying marked utilities. - Health and Safety:
Work in compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company policies. Employ a safety-first mindset when engaging with customers and communities. - Stakeholder Consultation:
Collaborate with contractors, developers, and builders regarding the location of underground utilities. - Equipment Management:
Ensure the safeguarding and proper use of company equipment and vehicles.
- Have a valid Driver’s License and clean three (3) year Driver’s Abstract as this position includes a company vehicle for business purposes only
- The ability to physically work outdoors daily in all weather conditions, walk short and long distances on uneven surfaces and ditches, lifting and load equipment up to 9kg (20lbs) in and out of the vehicle several times per day, carry/swing 20lbs of equipment while walking and frequently bend, twist, squat, or kneel.

- A clean criminal background check
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Utility Locates is an asset
