Overview

Join Aecon Utilities as a Fibre Optic Splicer and help us become Canada’s #1 utility construction provider. As a key member of our team, you will connect, test, and validate new and existing outside plant telecommunication networks.

What You’ll Do
  • Splice, test, and troubleshoot Fibre‑to‑the‑Home (FTTH) and customer builds.
  • Document work and update daily safety records with a focus on accuracy and potential hazards.
  • Inspect fibre routes and hub sites as part of preventative maintenance.
  • Apply strong attention to quality and detail while reading and interpreting technical drawings and fibre counts.
What You Bring
  • Fibre optic splicing experience and proficiency in OTDR testing.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of single‑fibre fusion sets, ribbon fibre splicing, live fibre identifiers, and ribbonizing techniques.
  • Experience terminating fibre cables with a variety of connectors and working in live fibre closures such as PLP Armadillo, PLP Dome, PLP Coyote Runts, and Tyco 400/450 series.
  • Understanding of patch panels, pigtails, patch cords, and splice boxes.
  • Knowledge of work‑area protection, electrical safety awareness, and fall protection; able to work in confined spaces or manholes.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, detail‑oriented, and able to prioritize tasks and communicate respectfully with employees, visitors, and customers.
