The Department of Immunology is an innovative and dynamic basic science department dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. We operate as an integrated, collaborative community with approximately 65 investigators in 7 research sites in Toronto, which includes our hospital-based university-affiliated research institutes. Together we strive to advance biomedical discoveries in Immunology, increase our understanding of fundamental Immunological principles and develop new applications for immune-based therapies.
As the Centre for Immune Analytics (CIA) Specialist, you will beresponsible for the operation, maintenance, and day-to-day support of newly acquired IMC/CyTOF, single-cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics equipment within the CIA. This role provides dedicated technical coverage to ensure safe operation, preventative maintenance, quality control, and timely support for researchers and users of these platforms. Working closely with faculty, researchers, and laboratory teams, you will play a key role in enabling high-quality research outcomes by ensuring equipment readiness, user support, and adherence to established procedures and standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing hands-on laboratory support by performing specialized laboratory procedures requiring high precision and attention to detail, including supporting experimental workflows and platform-specific processes
- Supporting experimental planning and data interpretation activities by assisting with experimental design considerations, preparing samples, performing instrument runs, and conducting associated quality control checks in accordance with established protocols
- Demonstrating laboratory techniques and procedures to students and/or staff, providing detailed explanations and guidance on experimental protocols and best practices
- Preparing, assembling, and maintaining laboratory materials and equipment, including setting up teaching/research labs, maintaining inventories, ordering supplies, approving purchases within established limits, and scheduling the use of lab equipment and resources
- Troubleshooting and coordinating routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, and ensuring procedures, guidelines, and safety standards are followed
- Drafting and analyzing laboratory reports and research content, including preparing statistical summaries, supporting data interpretation, and contributing to research outputs, funding applications, and research papers
- Developing, editing, and maintaining documentation and training materials, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory and data workflows, training content, and workshop materials
- Providing technical and administrative support for laboratory activities, including acting as a technical resource for protocols and procedures, supporting users with basic data analysis assistance and reference code, and coordinating workshops, seminars, and program delivery
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
- Minimum three (3) years of experience providing technical support in a teaching and/or research laboratory environment
- Demonstrated experience performing laboratory experiments and procedures requiring high precision and attention to detail, including supporting experimental workflows, instrument runs, and associated quality control checks
- Demonstrated experience setting up, preparing, and maintaining laboratory spaces, materials, and equipment, including inventory management, ordering supplies, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coordinating routine maintenance
- Demonstrated experience providing instruction or demonstrations in a laboratory setting, including explaining procedures and protocols to students and/or staff
- Demonstrated experience preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected, analyzing laboratory reports, and supporting data interpretation for research activities
- Demonstrated experience drafting and editing content for funding applications and research papers, including contributing to research findings published in academic journals
- Demonstrated experience developing and editing training materials or documentation, such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), training guides, or workshop materials, including documentation for laboratory and data workflows
