Practicum Student - Environmental Health (General)

* The Role:

** The Environmental and Occupational Health team examines how air, water, food and our physical environment can impact population health. The successful candidate for our 2026 summer practicum will work with a diverse team of environmental health scientists and professionals to support public health practitioners throughout Ontario in the areas of health hazards, safe water, and food safety.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to the following activities:  
• Review and interpretation of environmental data  
• Jurisdictional scans  
• Literature review and knowledge synthesis   
• Develop and deliver presentations  
• Report writing    Suggested placement start date:
May to August 2026

Please note:

• This position is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an academic program where the completion of a practicum placement is required.  
• This position is only open to students currently residing in Ontario and attending a Canadian academic institution. Preference will be given to students enrolled in Ontario-based academic institutions.  
• This is a paid placement.

Educational objectives:
* Gain expertise in analysis and interpretation of data
* Gain expertise in critical appraisal
* Develop skills in communicating scientific information through report writing, presentations and working in collaboration with key stakeholders

Proposed deliverables at the end of the placement:
* The successful candidate will prepare a report.

Education and experience:

* Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Environmental and/or Occupational Health, Epidemiology, Food Safety, or a related field.
* Strong English communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.
* Computer proficiency, strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required

Full time, 36.25 hours per week Compensation Group:
Individual Contributor Compensation Range: $700.00 - $725.00
