About the Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare various heritage documents and reports;
  • Complete key tasks required for heritage documents including, but not limited to, historical property research (OnLand, , Tax Assessment Rolls, etc.), screening for and developing inventories of built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes, and heritage evaluations using Ontario Regulation 9/06 and Ontario Regulation 10/06;
  • Draft Statements of Cultural Heritage Value and develop lists of heritage attributes;
  • Conduct field surveys within Ontario, when necessary, and provide written descriptions, including architectural details of built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes documented in the field;
  • Attend and support public information sessions involving heritage;
  • Assist the manager with the preparation of proposals;
  • Deliver formal quality assurance for deliverables;
  • Provide excellent mentorship support and task specific training to Junior staff;
  • Always Adhere to Egis’ Health and Safety procedures;
  • Work closely with clients, colleagues and other discipline leads to provide solutions for optimum project delivery;
  • Contribute innovative ideas to continually enhance the Cultural Heritage team and wider company strategies; and
  • Other duties as may be required.

What do we need from you

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
  • Master’s degree/diploma in heritage planning, heritage conservation, or in a heritage related discipline;
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience working in a heritage consultancy environment or a related field;
  • Professional or Intern Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) is an asset;
  • Advanced written skills and experience in completing a variety of reports and documents under the Planning Act and Environmental Assessment Act, including Municipal Class EA and MTO Class EA. These would include but are not limited to:
    Cultural Heritage Reports:
    Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments (Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports), Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, Documentation and Salvage Reports and Conservation Plans.
  • Well versed in heritage legislation framework and policies in Ontario, including the Planning Act, the Provincial Planning Statement, the Ontario Heritage Act, the Standards and Guidelines for Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties, the Ontario Heritage Toolkit, Parks Canada Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, etc. and additional heritage policies and guidelines including familiarity with those in municipal Official Plans;
