The Meadoway Crew Leader leads a team of 3-8 staff to implement meadow restoration and invasive management activities. These activities may include site preparation, seeding, mowing, and herbicide applications. Candidates will demonstrate the relevant skills, techniques, and best management practices for meadow restoration and invasive species management. The Crew Leader actively participates in the safe operation and maintenance of a range of tools and equipment including tractors, zero turn mowers and backpack sprayers.
This position plays an integral role in the on-ground implementation of meadow restoration and ecosystem enhancement through the management of invasive species, bringing their leadership skills together with their ecological knowledge. Occupational health and safety is a major responsibility of this position, additional requirements include the ability to manage time, provide accurate estimates of task completion, and complete activities on schedule;
familiarity with basic equipment and power tools; demonstrated knowledge of native and invasive plants; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team; effective communication with tact and courtesy; and the capacity to perform physical outdoor labour, including heavy lifting up to 45 lbs.
- Performs meadow and adaptive management activities, liaising with the Project Manager and other team members to coordinate field work activities to ensure work is completed in compliance with TRCA policies, standards and timelines.
- Conducts field work and supports the coordination of field work by providing on‑site work coordination and leadership to the team.
- Ensures quality control are completed daily, with records maintained and accessible.
- Complete daily work reports, and project information records as assigned.
- Requires consistent movement and physicality, such as walking, stretching, jumping, digging, lifting (up to 45lbs) /pushing/pulling items, cleaning, working on vegetation or other general strain.
- Location of the work site is outdoors and subject to uneven terrain and changing weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, precipitation and UV exposure.
- Coordinates the operation and maintenance of equipment as required (ranges from small tools and measuring devices to heavy equipment).
- Participates in and/or leads daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.

- Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field
