Registered Nurse - Medical Withdrawal Services
CAMH is implementing its Strategic Plan “Connected CAMH” to transform lives, ignite innovation, and revolutionize education and drive social change. The Medical Withdrawal Service (MWS) is an inpatient program within the Acute Care Program that supports adult clients with severe substance use and/or complex pain disorders who require medically‑supervised withdrawal and medication rotation to safer substances.
This full‑time temporary position (until July 17 2026) seeks a Registered Nurse to join a supportive, collaborative, and welcoming team that uses evidence‑based, standardized pharmacological protocols, wound care, and medication administration to provide life‑preserving care. The RN will continuously assess physiological stability, mental status, risks, functional ability, motivation, and client skills.
The role includes orientation and mentorship support from the Advance Practice Clinical Leader and Nurse Educator, collaboration with an interprofessional team, participation in reflective practice, and potential charge nurse and other leadership development activities.
Required Skills- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients, families and the interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrate competency in monitoring, assessment and documentation for:
- Mental health and substance‑related disorders
- Trauma‑responsive behaviours
- Mental status and physical health assessments
- Client response to pharmaceutical interventions
- Demonstrate motivation to develop knowledge and skills of trauma‑informed care, culturally competent care, crisis intervention, mental health and addiction diagnoses and treatment modalities
- Be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is required
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a BSCN and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
- Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset
- Effective leadership, decision‑making, organizational and problem‑solving skills are required
- Computer literacy is required
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset
- 12‑hour shift work, days and nights, and some weekend work; position located at the Queen Street Site
