Job Description
Sinai Health is looking for a Coordinator (GI Oncology) to support our Department of Ambulatory Surgical Services.
The Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at Mount Sinai Hospital in collaboration with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (UHN) is the only program of its kind in Ontario that offers aggressive cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). We see patients from all over the province who are diagnosed with peritoneal surface malignancies that have spread from colorectal, appendiceal, small bowel and peritoneal mesothelioma origin.
As a member of the Nursing Leadership team, the Coordinator is responsible for supporting the nursing practice and education needs to enhance nursing development and patient safety in the Ambulatory Surgical Services – Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program.
In this role you will:
Support and maintain the philosophy, goals, objectives and standards of the Department of NursingContribute to improvements in patient care and safety through supporting the consistent practice of patient care standards and leading the implementation of best practice guidelines in the Ambulatory Surgical ServicesCollaborate with the NUA, CNS, Surgical Oncologists and other members of the intraprofessional team to plan and implement relevant educational initiatives to support enhanced nursing knowledge and professional developmentUtilize and demonstrate a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for complex oncology patientsAct as a clinical resource for patients, families, and other healthcare professionals from external institutions who are part of the patient’s circle-of-carePerform in-person or virtual nursing assessment on patients and provide patient education during and outside of clinic hoursTriage new patient referrals from across Ontario and enact as a consultant for the program’s eligibility criteriaFacilitate the coordination of patient care in liaison with radiology and pathology departments, and external institutions (e.g. peritoneal tumour board)Collaborate with the surgical team to facilitate patient flow in and out of the Ambulatory Surgical ServicesParticipate in development, implementation and evaluation of quality and safety initiatives including the preparation for accreditationPerform other duties consistent with the job classification as requiredJob Requirements
Job Requirements
Mandatory
BScN required3 years of experience in a relevant roleCurrently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)Preferred
Master’s degree in nursingPrevious experience in surgical oncology nursingPrevious experience in an ambulatory care settingSkills and Knowledge
Proficiency in information technology (EMR, EPR, PHS, Coral Viewer etc.)Demonstrated leader of patient and family centred care principlesExcellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skillsStrong organization and time management skillsExcellent decision making, problem recognition, problem solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skillsAbility to work effectively and independently under stressful conditionsProven leadership qualities, effective interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary teamParticipates as a member of the Centre of Excellence Nursing Leadership TeamDemonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
