Position Overview

Scarborough Health Network Women and Children’s program offers a specialized orientation program to Registered Nurses (RNs) who are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and are interested in pursuing a career in Neonatal Intensive Care. This enhanced program is designed to equip nurses with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in neonatal care. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Women and Children’s, you will be responsible for providing excellent care to diverse patient populations within our multi-service environment.

Our Women and Children’s Program uses a patient-focused total care model, and you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients and their families.

The RN role models clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) Neonatal Nursing Technical Skills and Competencies, and SHN policies and procedures. The RN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team, providing direct patient care based on the three-factor framework outlined in the CNO standard RN Practice:
The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These factors influence care-provider assignment decisions, as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses commit to lifelong learning.

Structure

Combination of clinical rotations, didactic sessions, simulations, training and mentorship.

Focus Areas

Neonatal Intensive Care, neonatal care, operating room, patient education and interprofessional collaboration.

Requirements
  • Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Must have or be willing to complete the following required certifications and education: BCLS, NRP, Breastfeeding certification, and S.T.A.B.L.E. within the first 3 months of hire.
