Nurse Practitioners play a critical role in our success. We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join the Division of Respiratory Medicine. This role is focused on the Long-Term Ventilation and Sleep Disorders patient population and aligns with Sick Kids 2030 strategic plan.

The NP will provide leadership and promote inter‑professional excellence and collaboration with the Division of Respiratory Medicine and in child and family‑centered care within the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, and research and leadership/change agency in a dynamic clinical environment.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do
  • Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice
  • Provide leadership in advancing clinical practice and the provision of safe and high‑quality child and family‑centred care
  • Provide care for both inpatient and outpatients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, nocturnal hypoventilation, and/or respiratory failure in neuromuscular and genetic diseases.
  • Work with inpatient respiratory consult services to optimize care, ensure safe transition to home care, and continued follow up for Sleep/LTV patients admitted to hospital with complex respiratory needs.
  • In collaboration with critical care teams, provide consultative care to critically ill inpatients being considered for tracheostomy and invasive ventilation, including education regarding needs of children with tracheostomy/ventilator, caregiver support, and outpatient follow‑up requirements.
  • Foster interprofessional collaboration in the coordination of interprofessional plans of care
  • Assume a leadership role in advancing the quality of clinical practice and the provision of high‑quality care, incorporating patient safety strategies
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and Interprofessional colleagues
  • Identify, integrate and evaluate research‑based innovations for improving patient care
  • Identify and link to services and resources in community, provide leadership in planning for successful transition of children and youth to care environments beyond Sick Kids, including facilities such as Holland Bloorview and Safehaven.
  • Provide specialty consultation regarding complex respiratory health issues with teams within and outside of the hospital
Essential Requirements Here’s What You’ll Need
  • Master of Nursing or equivalent with a clinical focus
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner certificate or equivalent
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, within the RN (Extended Class)
  • A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience in pediatric care, complex paediatric care preferred
