Job Description
This is a Temporary Position for up to 15 months
Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support our Emergency Department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an expert emergency nurse who will provide leadership in this department. You will be part of a team, providing leadership in knowledge based practice, the development of standards and quality initiatives. You will be responsible for overall education and staff development initiatives directed at enhancing the care and experience for patients in the ED.
Aboutthis team:
The Emergency Department (ED) at Mount Sinai Hospital, located in the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, treats urgent and life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The experienced team of emergency care providers see more than 61,000 patients annually. The ED has 60 exam rooms which are utilized for mixed acuity patient care. Communities served include Gynecology/Obstetrics, General Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Dental emergencies, people who are living under-housed, experiencing mental & substance use health challenges.
The multidisciplinary team in this acute, academic centre includes MDs, ACPs, NPs, RNs, RPNs, Physician Navigators, learners, Peer Support Workers, SWs, OTs, PTs, volunteers, Security Ambassadors and the Psychiatry Emergency Services team.
- Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and the management of patient care through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff
- Collaborate in the establishment of goals and objectives for the department consistent with the provision of high quality care
- Participate in and lead programmatic development of the clinical area with a focus on improving the patient and staff experience
- Assume a leadership role, leading quality activities and administrative duties including committee involvement
- Participate in policy and procedure development
- Provide quality new hire orientation and competency development of existing staff in advanced roles such as team lead, triage and resuscitation
- Support the use of evidence at the point of care for the purposes of improving nursing practice and patient outcomes
- Play a leadership role, in the collaborative design, implementation, and evaluation of information technologies required in the Emergency Department
- Collaborate to deliver, coordinate and participate in inter-professional education and professional development activities/programs
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Mandatory
- Master Degree in Nursing (completed or in progress)
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing with a Masters Degree in a related discipline may be considered
- Currently registered and in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- 5 years of recent and related nursing experience
- Relevant Emergency Nursing certifications an asset
- Membership in RNAO or other organizations relevant to role
- Comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the care of acute, complex medical and psychiatric patients
- Ability to utilize information technology
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Demonstrated prioritization, escalation, safety and risk mitigation skills
- Program planning and evaluation methodology skills
- Commitment to collaborative practice
