Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner,having a specialty-based focus, functions in an expanded nursing role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately assess and treat acute, and complex pain problems. The NP will work closely with the APS and Anesthesia care team to provide targeted, patient specific treatments aimed at reducing the incidence of severity of acute pain.
Duties
Direct patient care, utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the management of pain, collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, determining holistic care needs, and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problemsLeadership and participation in quality improvement, research, and policy and procedure developmentDelivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programsPerforming activities to further develop and strengthen the professionActing as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agenciesPerforming other duties consistent with the job classification, as requiredQualifications
BScN and completion of Masters Degree Program in Nursing (or one semester from completion)Nurse Practitioner (NP) certificate complete or pendingCurrent certification of registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of OntarioRegistered Nurse Extended Class (EC) certification complete or pendingThree to five years nursing experience in acute care environmentCompletion of CNO approved controlled substances educationNursing experience in pain and addiction medicine and assetExperience in nursing research methodologyEligible for cross-appointment to an academic institutionMembership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role (preferred)Experience with using electronic patient record systemsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsEffective interpersonal and customer services skillsExcellent organization and time management skillsExcellent decision making, problem recognition and problem-solving skillsExcellent negotiation and conflict resolution skillsProgram planning and evaluation methodology skillsCommitment to collaborative practiceAbility to work effectively independently and under stressful conditionsAbility to work in a self-directed mannerAdditional Information
