Reports to: Clinical Director, Acute Care Mental Health and Allied Health

Wage Range: $53.09 - $66.36 per hour

Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week

Status: Temporary Full-Time (18 Months Contract)

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides extended nursing care that optimizes patient outcomes, enhances safety, efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility to health care for patients in the Eating Disorders Program. Collaborating with the NP in the Program for Eating Disorders, the NP works as part of an interprofessional team to provide primary care/mental health services within their scope and expertise. Although this role focuses on outpatient settings and intake processes, the NP may work in all clinical settings, including inpatient units, performing assessments, diagnoses, and prescribing as appropriate.

The NP will work closely with program psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health team members to ensure seamless delivery of medical care.

Duties
  • A leadership role in guiding quality improvement.
  • Participating in policy and procedure development.
  • Engaging in evidence-informed practice by critically appraising and applying research and best practice guidelines, and performing research activities.
  • Delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs.
  • Acting as a resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies.
  • Performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession.
  • Performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Master’s Degree Program in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse (EC) certification; complete Nurse Practitioner (NP) Primary Care certificate
  • Current Certificate of Competence with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Three to five years nursing experience in an acute treatment center (preferred)
  • Experience with mental health care (asset)
  • Experience in nursing research methodology (preferred)
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Membership in the Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario (NPAO) and other relevant organizations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Decision making, problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience in program planning and evaluation methodologies
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Ability to work independently under stressful conditions and in a self-directed manner
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands
  • Proficiency in information technology
