Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well‑being of 2

SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16‑29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Centre, offering barrier‑free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long‑term housing with life‑skills support.

About the Role

As an Admin Volunteer, you will be responsible for:

Welcoming and Directing Youth
  • Be a friendly, non‑judgmental presence, welcoming youth into the Friends of Ruby Youth Centre.
  • Provide youth with directions to the space, service, or program they are looking for.
  • Answer questions youth may have about our programs or services upon entry.
  • If a youth is in need of de‑escalation, direct them to the de‑escalation room and inform a Friends of Ruby staff member.
Receiving Packages and Deliveries
  • Receive all packages and scheduled donation deliveries brought to the Youth Centre.
  • Inform relevant Friends of Ruby staff when a package or delivery has arrived for them.
Administrative Support
  • Manage incoming phone calls to the telephone line, including call transfers to correct staff members, reviewing voicemail messages, and providing follow‑up as necessary.
  • Support office operations and maintain inventory for donations and office supplies.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
What You Bring Qualifications
  • Experience with administrative work.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Comfortable greeting service users.
  • Works well as a member of a team.
  • Commitment to social justice, anti‑racism, anti‑oppression, housing‑first approach, harm reduction approach, and trauma‑informed care.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Assets
  • Identifies as a member of the 2

    SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • Knowledge and experience in the sector.
  • Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) training.
  • De‑escalation training.
  • Customer service experience or training.
