Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Development plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing Dixon Hall’s mission by designing and executing a comprehensive, long-term Philanthropy, Fundraising, and Development strategy aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. The Director of Development works closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Board Fundraising Committee and is responsible for building a sustainable revenue model through major gifts, grants, donor stewardship, events, and campaigns.

The Director plays a key leadership role focused on partnership, collaboration, and strategic execution. Working closely with the CEO and Dixon Hall leadership, the Director helps translate Dixon Hall priorities into compelling fundraising opportunities. They lead and inspire both senior volunteers and a high-performing fundraising team, fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration.

The Director oversees development strategy, ensures systems and mentorship are in place, and personally manages a donor portfolio expected to raise up to $3 Million annually. Ultimately, the director is responsible for building a lasting philanthropic foundation and ensuring that all stakeholders experience the meaningful impact of their contribution.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and the Philanthropy team, design, develop and implement a comprehensive, long-term Philanthropy, Fundraising, and Development plan aligned with Dixon Hall’s strategic plan including the necessary resources (human, physical, technological and financial) to be successful with the plan.
  • Director of Development will primarily be responsible for fundraising and revenue-generating activities. This typically includes:
    • Major gifts (high-value individual donations)
    • Fundraising events and campaigns
    • Grant writing for government, foundations, or institutional funders
    • Donor relations and stewardship
    • Strategic fundraising planning
  • The Director of Development will lead the development and submission of high-quality proposals for government grants, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and compliance with funding requirements. The Director will collaborate with internal teams to gather data, prepare compelling proposals, and track outcomes to maximize funding success.
  • Develop yearly business plans to move the long-term Philanthropy plan forward. Ensure regular reporting and accountability for results (monthly and yearly).
  • Ensure the Philanthropy/Fundraising/Development planning includes the following: planning, developing a Case for Support, database management, donor identification and outreach, direct marketing, major gifts, grants and foundations, planned giving, donors recognition and stewardship, corporate donations and capital campaigns.
  • Personally manage a select portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, leading cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to secure $3 million in gifts annually. Partner with donors & operational leaders to translate key priorities into compelling donor opportunities.
  • Provide coaching on when to advance prospects and when to pause, helping Staff focus on high-quality, high potential relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Marketing & Communications on proposals, cultivation and recognition strategies, and impact reporting that build donor trust and loyalty.
  • Engage with volunteers and community leaders across expand the donor base and mobilize networks.
  • Develops and executes Dixon Hall’s event Strategy/management/planning.
  • Leads the creation and implementation of all fundraising events.
  • Engage and work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure the Philanthropy/Fundraising/Development Plan has the Marketing and Communications materials needed to be successful.
